The Minden Whippets boys basketball team made its home debut on Saturday in C.L. Jones Gymnasium and the home cooking worked as Minden won its first game of the season, defeating the Ogallala Indians.
Nic Werner scored a career and season-high 33 points making 11 of 16 field goals as the Whippets defeated Ogallala by 18 points 71-53.
Adam DeLaet added 11 points and a team-high six rebounds while Matt Exstrom added eight and Jonathan Miller six for the Dawgs.
Minden got off to a good start defensively holding the Indians to only seven points while scoring 10 to take a three point edge into the second frame.
