Minden closed its football season at 4-5 with a 41-0 defeat of Southern Valley on October 19 at the Eagles’ facility. The Whippets sent their seniors out in style, ending on a positive note and compiling the most wins in a season since the 2011 squad went 11-1.
The Dawgs led 8-0 after the first period. Eddie Gonzalez ran in from five yards out and Aiden Smith added a two-point conversion run.
Minden then put up five touchdowns and 33 points in the second quarter to lead at halftime 41-0. First, Smith had a five-yard TD run followed by a 42-yard scoring pass connection from Elijah Lovin to Jay Maska. Next, Lovin got in on a QB keeper covering 25 yards with senior lineman Grant Tomsen getting a handoff and barrelling across for the two-point conversion. The fourth TD was another hookup from Lovin to Maska, this one for 36 yards and Gonzalez kicked the PAT. Finally, Gonzalez burst in from the one for the final points of the half and the game as there was no scoring after halftime.
