The Whippet softball team played at the Holdrege Invitational on August 27. Minden dropped all three contests at the tourney falling to St. Paul 7-4, Kearney Catholic 17-6 and Wilber-Clatonia 7-0 (a forfeit score). The season record stands at 1-7.
The outcome of the St. Paul was much different than when the teams played earlier in the week. Minden jumped out to a 4-2 lead after two innings but could not find any more runs the rest of the way while St. Paul tied the game in the third and won it with three runs in the fifth. Cloee Johnson, Sonny Sowles, Lily Bloomfield and Trinity Carr all had hits. Bloomfield and Bailey Eckhardt each had an RBI and Johnson (2), Sowles (1) and Bloomfield (1) scored the runs.
Addison Klabunde pitched all five innings and had much better backing from her defense than the last time the two teams met up. She allowed seven runs, 10 hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
