Whippets Top Patriots For Holiday Crown

The Minden Whippets boys basketball team raced to a 12 point first quarter lead in the championship of the Minden Holiday Tournament on Dec. 29 to capture the title.
The Whippets got nine points in the opening period and 24 points overall from Ben Petersen and it carried the Dawgs to a ten point win, 70-60, over Adams Central as Minden used a very balanced offensive attack.
Minden (7-1) was led by Petersen with 24 but also placed three other players in double-figures. Dan Kristensen scored a season-high 15 points including seven of eight free throws in the fourth. Derek Kissinger chipped in with 11 and Carson Blum had 10 points.
Petersen powered Minden in a near flawless first period while Miles Steen added six points as Minden led the Patriots 21-9 after one period.
