Wilcox Man Sentenced To 19 To 20 Years In District Court For Death Of Infant Son

Christopher Preston, 25, Wilcox, was sentenced to 19-20 years in prison in Kearney County District Court on February 26 for the death of his infant son. The Honorable Judge Stephen Illingworth presided with County Attorney Melodie Bellamy representing the state and Tom Lieske representing Preston.

A no contest plea to one count of negligent child abuse resulting in death, a Class 2A felony, was entered into the court on December 18, 2019 and a pre-sentence investigation ordered and completed. The original charge of intentional child abuse resulting in death was lowered in return for Christopher’s plea.

Both parties gave statements before the sentence was given. Bellamy opened by stating it is because of Christopher’s actions that the infant Zackary Preston is in a grave. She said Christopher held the baby’s face down into a pillow because he was angry.
