The Axtell boys and girls competed at Elm Creek on May 3 to close out the regular season track and field schedule. No team scores were tabulated in the meet that hosted nine schools but, as usual, the Cats and Lady Cats did very well, with the boys claiming ten firsts, three seconds and two thirds and the girls earning five firsts, four seconds and four thirds.
Creighton Kring won the triple jump, long jump and the 100 while Lane Bertrand took the 300 hurdles, ran a leg on the winning 4 x 400 relay and continued to dominate the 110 hurdles, lowering his school record yet again from 40.51 to 40.1. Also winning were Tyler Danburg (400, leg on 4 x 400 relay), Lincoln Trent (1600), Jaron Bergstrom (3200), Calvin Johnson and Jake Wehrer as the other two members of the 4 x 400 relay and Johnson, Tom Peterson, Wehrer and Zach Hinrichs (4 x 800 relay). Seconds came from Johnson (1600), Elijah Lopez (3200) and Dustin Klingsporn (pole vault).
Getting thirds were Trent (400) and Hinrichs (800).
Getting gold for the girls were Kailey Trampe (100), Jessie Bertrand (200), Erica Bertrand (400) and the 4 x 400 and 4 x 100 relays with members Trampe, J. Bertrand, Camille Fishell and E. Bertrand.
