At the end of the 2017-18 school year, Axtell Community School jumped at an opportunity to purchase the old Gary Berggren machine shop west of the school to house their new Agricultural Education program and expand the school’s Skilled and Technical Sciences Department. The Wildcats are using this school year to renovate the building for their purposes.
“Last Spring we noticed that the building was for sale. We knew it would be a great place to house the newly established FFA program and then it evolved into moving the shop in there,” Superintendent Rob Gregory said.
Russ Wolfe out of Kearney is the General Contractor for the project. In these early stage of renovation however, Skilled and Technical Sciences instructor Joe Philippi and his students are using the project as a learning opportunity by doing the work themselves.
