The Axtell track and field teams began the 2019 season competing at and winning the seven-team Red Cloud Invitational on March 26. The boys scored 159 points to top Kenesaw (107.5), Shelton (92) and Blue Hill (65) while the Lady Cats racked up 124.5 points in outdistancing Blue Hill (101), Lawrence-Nelson (95) and Kenesaw (62).
The boys won seven events, with Lane Bertrand (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles) and Creighton Kring (long jump, triple jump) earning double golds. Also winning were Tyler Danburg (400), Lincoln Trent (800) and the 4 x 800 relay of Trent, Zach Hinrichs, Tom Peterson and Calvin Johnson. Picking up silvers were Kring (100,200), Danburg (800), Aaron Skaggs (110 hurdles) and the 4 x 400 and 800 sprint medley relays.
Thirds were garnered by Lane Bertrand (400), Zach Hinrichs (1600), Quinn Bertrand (110 hurdles) and Jaron Bergstrom (3200).
