Wildcats Win FKC Opener

The seventh-seeded Axtell Wildcats boys basketball team won its opening game in the 2011 Fort Kearney Conference tournament on Saturday in Amherst.
The Wildcats edged the tenth-seeded Amherst Broncos, 57-53, in Amherst to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Axtell will meet second-seeded Overton on Feb. 1 in Overton with a spot in the FKC semifinals on the line.
Axtell (8-8) was led by Bryce Runge with 23 points and nine rebounds followed by Jordan Miller with 18 points. Karter Rush led the team with a team-best 10 rebounds while scoring five points while Erik Lundeen added seven rebounds and four points.
